While mentors can often help in some areas of life, there are also other professionals which work in this regard. For example, Life Coaching Consultants can often help people in achieving a number of goals. These individuals often work on a freelance or contract basis to assist others in learning how to set up a structure in a way that is beneficial to overall health and well being.

In many cases, these individuals focus on eliminating negative habits of clients. Whether those habits be related to gambling, road rage, smoking or others which are considered to be negative in one way or another. Most often, the best coaches focus on eliminating negative energies will are holding one back from success in a number of areas.

While having some aspects of a psychologist or psychiatrist, these individuals have no connection with the mental health field. In fact, no certification or licensing is required to become a life coach or consultant. Still, based on the past experiences and successes of the coach, clients can often see improvement to a number of areas through this coaching.

One of the main differences between this type coaching and those working with mental health professionals is that there is no medication while these consultants are focusing on issues in the present. Whereas, most mental health professionals delve into the past of the individual to determine the cause of a specific behavior or behaviors. While this can be beneficial to some, it can often be detrimental to progress in others.

In most cases, individuals contact a life coach when needing help with balance, creative endeavors, diet, eating disorders, lifestyle, marriage, divorce, children, custody and others. In some cases, these individuals can help one work toward becoming more self-confident in order to find and keep work, balancing bank accounts and personal relationships. In all cases, it is important that the client be open and honest about these and other issues, otherwise that which the coach recommends may not work to resolve an issue.

Whatever the issue, it is important the consultant be a good listener, problem solver and listener. For, there are times when an individual might need help which the consultant is not qualified to provide. A good example of this might be if the coach discovers the individual to be suicidal. At which time, it is imperative that a professional such as a psychologist or psychiatrist be contacted which can better aid in comforting and directing the individual away from such thoughts.

While most exhibit signs of success when it comes to behavior modification, there can often be relapses. In the case of a relapse, it is important the individual contact the consultant for additional assistance as soon as possible. In most cases, a consultant can provide additional services as requested. Whereas, if the consultant feels that an individual might need the help of a professional, then the consultant will either refer the client to someone in the mental health field, or contact a professional on behalf of the client.

While many are okay with these individuals not having a certificate or license in order to provide these services, others are skeptical. For, while individuals must go through a great deal of education and training to become a therapist, these consultants are not required to attend any training whatsoever. In fact, most life coaches are teaching others based on past and present experiences when it comes to a number of issues.
