Tips About Dry Ice Blasting Services

There has been an increase in the invention of methods for cleaning surfaces and objects in the previous years. In cleaning industry, the mostly used method for cleaning is dry ice cleaning. Dry ice blasting falls under carbon dioxide cleaning. The surface is cleaned using carbon dioxide in solid form. A lot of pressure is put on the gas to solidify it. It is then directed towards the surface to be cleaned under high pressure. Here are facts about dry ice blasting services.

An alternative method to the use of dry ice is ice blasting, which involves the use of water-ice for cleaning. This technique of abrasive cleaning is similar to other methods such as plastic bead blasting, sodablasting, and sandblasting. There are several other abrasive materials that may be used in addition to the ones named above. The only difference between these methods is the abrasive medium that is used.

In dry ice blasting, pellets of solid carbondioxide are thrust by the blasting machine at very high speeds on the surfaces to be cleaned. The pellets are very soft and relatively less dense than other materials used in blasting such as sand and soda. During the process the solid carbondioxide sublimes immediately it comes into contact with the surface being cleaned. With this effect no solid is left behind in the site after the process.

The sublimation of the pellets reduces the amount of kinetic energy that is relocated to the cleaned surface. Reduction of the energy being transferred reduces the chances of damage of the surface being cleaned by the pellets. This implies that this cleaning method can also be used in the cleaning of delicate surfaces such as glass. Due to sublimation there are no residues left on the surface being cleaned after the process.

When sublimation occurs, it absorbs a lot of heat energy from a surface, producing shear stresses. The generation of shear stresses is caused by thermal shock. The absorption of heat energy from the surface makes dirt or contaminants on it to flake easily. Thus, the cleaning ability of the pellets is improved. Thermal conductivity of a surface plays a big role in the effectiveness of the process.

Application of this method is done in many fields. Cleaning of food processing equipment require this type of method because it helps in removing Escolar, salmonella enteritis, and Listeria monocytogenes among other microorganisms. After using this method one cannot detect microorganisms through conventional microbiological methods. This is because they are removed effectively. Cleaning of equipment without disassembling them can be done when this technique is applied.

Dry ice blasting is advantageous as it does not cause electrical or fire dangers. It is used mostly applied in aerospace and semiconductor industries. However it is being introduced into other industries and is developing at very fast rate. This method can be used in place of other solvent-type of cleaning methods as it has numerous advantages.

Whenever carbon dioxide exceeds one percent, it becomes a dangerous substance to be used. Asphyxia which displaces oxygen is caused by carbon dioxide beyond one percent of concentration. It is vital that this method is applied in rooms that are well ventilated. The gas is expelled outside easily when exhaust vents are placed near the ground.
