Different plants have different residues depending on what they are manufacturing. There are companies whose main residue is dust. These include powder processing companies, aw milling plant among many others. This powder may be harmful if not well handled. The article below discusses combustible dust explosions.

The first step is to confirm that the kind of dirt being produced in your plant is combustible dirt. Maybe the term is new to you, and you may not be sure of what it means. Then you should go on to conduct your research. Once you are assured you can call in the contractors to come get rid of it and you will know what equipment is to be used.

It is important to train your employees. Before they start working at the plant inform about dirt explosions and where they are most likely to occur. Train them on what to do in case of an emergency and tell them the dangers of combustion dirt to keep them in the know. You may have the information printed out in case they need to refresh their knowledge.

The dust should be cleaned as often as possible. Never let the powder accumulate to the point of forming a thick visible layer. Have a cleaning crew that removes the powder from every surface in sight. Think of it like if there is no powder, there can be no explosion. You can even have the employees take turns in leaning out the powder in the vents and all the other places.

Come up with a program that assures you that the processing plant has been cleaned. It is little wonder employees may not take the issue seriously and not dirt very thoroughly. You can set aside a group of employees or managers who will regularly inspect the plant after cleaning. They will report back to you, and you will make improvements where need be.

The method of cleaning should not add danger to the already dangerous situation. This means that you should try as much as possible to avoid a method that would leave small clouds of powder in the air. If enough powder gets saturated in the air, it will not be so hard to start an explosion. Make sure this especially happen near sources of heat.

You can minimize the ignition sources in the plant. This means if possible, reduces the sources of fore and remove all equipment that may cause a static spark. You should also make a point of putting up no smoking signs in as many areas as you can. If you control the dirt and the fire source, the explosion is less likely to occur.

Most people get rid of powder through vacuuming which is very effective. However, the vacuum used in the plant and the one at home are different. If you use the one for the house on the plant, it may give out and spark. A small spark is all that is required for a damaging explosion.
