If you like chicken and want to impart great flavor to it, there are a few ways to do so. A chicken seasoning rub is one way to make it extra flavorful. A rub is different from a marinade, in that it is dry and it is rubbed onto the meat. Different flavor combinations give the poultry a totally different taste. It's a good idea to play around with different seasonings to find the flavor that you enjoy. Packets that are already put together can also be found at most grocery stores. Simply open the packet and massage it into the poultry.

When you decide to use these spices, it's important to do so in advance, they need time to work their way into the meat. Don't worry though, it doesn't take long, it can be less than 20 minutes, or as much as two hours. It's up to you and your time constraints. Just make sure that if there is skin on the poultry, that you get it under it so you get the most flavor.

These are so easy to create at home, that many cooks choose to do so. They are economical and creating them yourself means that you control the ingredients. If you are limiting salt intake, this is a good idea since many pre-packaged ones contain a high amount of salt. Your own creations will also have more of the flavors that you love, you can leave out flavors that you don't like.

We know that many people like some spice to their chicken and this rub is perfect for you. This rub uses cayenne pepper, paprika, onion and garlic, the powdered type since this is a dry rub, and chili powder. You'll love the spice, use more for extra spice and less if you just want a smaller amount.

Some like a sweeter rub on their meat and for those leave the cayenne out and add some brown sugar. You can also leave the cayenne pepper in, along with the brown sugar. This will leave you with something that is a little bit spicy and a little bit sweet.

Another yummy option that is somewhere in the middle between spicy and sweet is, to combine garlic power, powered onion, cumin, brown sugar, paprika, opt for smoked paprika, or the Spanish variety. Also add black pepper, ginger, and dry mustard. Mix everything up well, and use it.

These can all be made up ahead of time and stored in an airtight container. Keep them in the cabinet and take them out whenever you're in the mood for some super flavorful chicken. Keep in mind that they longer you let these stay on the poultry before cooking, the more intense the flavor will be. You can even score the meat, for added flavor.

While each of the above are great with poultry, they can also be used on other meats such as, roasts, steaks, and ribs. They impart a unique taste to every day cuts of meat. They liven up a meal. It's fun to experiment with different flavor profiles to find the ones that you like best. Get the family involved in helping to come up with different tastes. It's fun, and a great introduction to cooking for children.
