Learn About Custom Artisan Plaster Wall Finishes With A Brooklyn Interior Wall Finishing Company

By Lonnie Hahne

Deciding the feel a room should have is a big aspect of decorating. One of the more popular options for those who love a polished, refined and high end look is fine quality Venetian plaster. A Brooklyn interior wall finishing company employs artisans who can assist their clients in achieving this professionally.

Venetian plaster actually comes in two forms, natural and synthetic. Each type has its own individual set of positive points, and also a few that some people may find less than appealing. Both will provide the user with an incredibly attractive and luxurious finish that looks very refined and high end.

A synthetic version of this medium, created using acrylic polymers and various fillers like gypsum or clay, is available at home improvement and decor stores. It can be easily rolled on like a paint and produces an attractive look at a considerably more affordable cost. The drawbacks to this type are that it may need periodic touch ups to remain fresh, and it is not an organic compound.

Authentic Italian plaster contains only natural materials like quartz, marble, limestone, resin, clay and organically produced pigments. There are different mixtures available, each with a creamy consistency similar to mud. Anyone with a lot of time and patience could try to apply the finish themselves, though due to the difficulty getting it right, most people choose to hire skilled artisans.

The organic compound is applied using a trowel and is typically done in multiple thin coats to achieve a beautiful translucence and multidimensional look. Though the results are absolutely magnificent, the process is quite laborious and time consuming. The benefit is that it is highly durable and friendly to the environment.

Though having actual Italian plaster applied will cost a bit more, eventually it will more than pay for itself as it lasts indefinitely. The colors will remain the same throughout the years. Interestingly, a compound that is primarily lime based will, over time, return to its natural state of limestone and marble, giving the surface a solid stone appearance.
