Considerations For Protecting Juarez Orphans

The increase in the number of children who are less fortunate has skyrocketed in various parts of the world and Santa Teresa in New Mexico is not an exception. Children lose their parents as a result of war, poverty or even illness related causes. Luckily, well-wishers and the local authorities have come up with ways of nurturing and protecting Juarez orphans. A number of programs and facilities have been set up to accommodate such victims of circumstances.

With the setup of such facilities, the number of individuals who come up to show support has also escalated. They come as volunteers to engage the children in various activities and training for a period of tie. However, other institutions are established with the sole intention of making profits from the children. Such institutions d not fulfill the mandate of protecting children hence need to be overlooked. As a volunteer, a number of indicators definitely show that an institution is not that genuine.

To start with, the program will openly solicit tourists and visitors. Institutions that are perfectly run usually require visitors to make appointments before being accepted into the institution. In the event that you realize that the orphanage easily welcomes visitors, it denotes that the interests of children are not being protected. Such an organization need to be crosschecked by relevant authorities.

A good orphanage should also be able to request for professional documents of volunteers. These documents include their CV, certificate of good conduct and individual references for cross examination. These documents are termed as the prerequisite before being allowed to engage the orphanage children in any activity.

Supposing the authorities at the orphanage discover that the person is not genuine in intentions, arrangements can be made to decline their request appropriately. This move will come in handy is the protection of children from people without morals in society. Such people usually cause physical and mental injuries especially if the victim is a child.

Orphanages in Santa Teresa which ask the volunteers to directly work with children are also putting them at risk. The volunteers should only work with the support staff in a bid to offer daily services to the children. This clearly shows that management has the best interests of children in mind. Direct relationship with children may put them in danger as they do not have a rapport with the new volunteer.

In order to make a huge impact in voluntary program, it is expected that volunteers spends a couple of weeks engaging the children in various activities. This allows them to get to interact with such individuals on a personal basis but with the guidance if the support staff. Those programs that only allow volunteers to work for a couple of days by coming in the afternoon for activities clearly indicate that they are not for the interests of the child.

One contemporary activity most institutions embrace is orphanage tourism. This is particularly bad for children as it presents them as a tourist attraction rather than normal human beings. They grow up knowing that they are less fortunate and nothing can be done to change that fact. In the long run, serious psychological impacts are made on their lives. This move should be highly discouraged in a bid to safeguard the interests of an orphaned child.
