Everyone in the petroleum extraction site knows that wax and other deposits reduce the efficiency of the oil recovery systems and also the flow lines. This has far-reaching consequences since it will clog the transferring system thus reducing the overall productivity. Normally oil is prone to precipitation which leaves behind the waxes in the form of paraffin deposits. In such cases, paraffin removal oil wells are necessary as a stop measure. Some of the techniques available for the removal include the following.

Scraping is an ancient method of removing the waxes from the wells. It involves the use of scraper lines to cut and trim the already formed layer of deposits. Someone will be forced to get into the well to scrap and remove any deposition be it clay or crystals. This is much efficient in ensuring total clearance of the unwanted and limiting deposit to pave the way for efficient harvesting of fluid.

As stated earlier temperature change is the main reasons why precipitation of wax occur in the transportation flow lines and the recovery systems. The best way to manage this problem by adding external heat to the system and minimizing the heat loss by insulating the flow lines. One way to add heat is by the installation of electric heaters down the hole near the production formation.

Use of hot oil is normally the first technique many people try. In this method, the heated fluids are used to dissolve the deposition on the walls of production tubing. This is best done by injecting the hot oil down through the system casing and up through the main production tubing. However, there is need to keep the temperatures of the crude oil above the cloud content temperatures of paraffin to avoid re-deposition.

Utilization of high-temperature water is an elective strategy for thermal methodology. The boiling water pumped through the packaging will alter with the temperatures of the wax. Remember high temperatures increase the kinetic energy of molecules which means a change of state is enhanced due to the bombarding action. The wax will in this manner break up into the unrefined oil.

There are many chemical means of resolving this menace. For instance use of dispersant is popularly embraced nowadays due to their positive impact. They are added to the well to dissolve and disperse any formed crystals into the produced oil. It breaks up the crystals into very tiny particles enough to be transported in the oil without affecting the viscosity.

Solvents such as the benzene, kerosene, toluene gasoline are widely used chemicals to dissolve the paraffin wax. Such solvents have high aromatic content of condensates can dissolve the deposits back into the crude oil. However, this requires that constant and continuous injection of this solvents in a well-bore.

The use of crystal modifiers also has a lot of benefits and efficiency in dissolving the wax. These modifiers can inhibit the formation of paraffin wax by altering their crystallization. This alteration gives no chance for crystal growth. Furthermore, they may also adsorb on the paraffin preventing their deposition.
