Emotional intelligence can best be described as a person s understanding of their own emotions and those of others in all manner of circumstances, be it in the workplace or in their personal lives. Coaching emotions merely involves knowing when and how to deal with one s own feelings and being empathetic for example to the feelings of others and improve Group Culture Assessments.

One can help others by becoming a coach and assist them in harnessing or at the very least, discovering how to navigate the world through and respond to stimuli with the correct emotional response. For that, it means that coaches need to be able to place themselves in the position of their clients and empathize with them regarding any difficulties that they may face.

But if the question for why there s even a need for a coach crosses your mind then here are a few things to consider. There are basic tips that can be followed to enhance the level of emotional intelligence capabilities in a person s personal capacity. The first tip is an active pursuit to improve their emotional state. This is much easier to do as a coach would be able to provide guidance with regard to how behavior should be modeled by following the example set by them.

A declaration of personal vision and values that need to be written down and sought after. This coupled with a vision statement to assist them in obtaining the goals they have set out to achieve at the end of a predetermined period of time. This not only provides a sense of urgency but it goes from a state of what will be done to a state of what is being done.

Self-awareness is a big indicator to whether or not a friend or loved one would need an intervention from an emotional intelligence coach. From a coaching perspective, what will need to be established is to what extent does this lack of self-awareness extend by gathering information by illustrating how others see those in need to make an assessment.

In the case of a friend helping a friend of a colleague, making things personal with the inclusion of a goal or vision they wish to achieve or something that is of importance to them. These values should be what is upheld no matter how hard it may be to express themselves or their emotions. An example being, to say nice things or say nothing at all.

Icebreakers or conversation starters don t have to be deeply thought out nor about the weather. All it takes is a little praise of a colleague which should take no more than 10 to 20 seconds of your time. Be it on something they ve previously done in or outside the workspace.

Becoming an emotional intelligence coach should not be mistaken for therapy, as they re two distinctly different professions. However, the manner in which they go about helping patients is very similar. Coaches need to make certain that the people they assist are imbued with the skills to recognize their emotions and find ways to articulate them without being destructive.
