Machines with sharp cutting edges normally wear out or become blunt over time. However, fitting them with tungsten carbide coatings ensure that cutting edges maintain their shapes for a long time over stainless steel. The coating has a resistance to high temperature which ensures that it can be used in machining for a long while. Due to the nature of the coating, they are used in applications which involve high precision and high quality production of products.

Miners have drills made with a jagged surface. This surface is very coarse and has protruding button inserts which are coated with tungsten carbide. The coating helps protect the inner softer metal matrix but as an insert wears out, it exposes the soft matrix which again pops out new button inserts on drills. This coating help ensure the mining process is very effective and increase the longevity of the drill by slow wearing out.

These products do not wear out quickly and ensure the shoes is used for a longer period. Carbide tipped hoof nails are used to attach the shoes. The coatings are used for covering instruments meant for surgery. They normally have a higher performance than their stainless steel counterpart instruments. However, their downside is they are more expensive than stainless steel and are very delicate requiring great care in handling them.

Bridal jewelry industry uses it as a popular material due to its characteristics. It is extremely hard and resistant to scratching which makes it a great choice for many jewelers. Due to extreme hardness, it can shatter under certain circumstances which are actually useful. During emergencies, it is easier to remove compared to metals which would bend flat and be a hindrance to its removal. Special machines such as locking pliers are used to remove them.

Agricultural machines are usually coated with such products especially the wearing parts. This is due to the slow wearing out of this coating which can only be compared to only industrial diamond. It has actually surpassed treated steel by more an average of around six times by being more durable. It is used to protect the machine shape and design of the part while ensuring its long lasting and increased performance with less downtime.
